Why I Became a Real Estate Agent
I never thought I’d end up in real estate. If you had asked me a few years ago what I’d be doing today, I probably would have mentioned something completely different. But life has a funny way of leading you to unexpected places, and for me, it led to a career that I’ve grown to love.
It all started when I began dreaming about buying my own home. As a single mom juggling work, family, and everything in between, the idea of owning property felt both exciting and overwhelming. I threw myself into learning everything I could about the home-buying process—from mortgages and market trends to neighborhoods and inspections. What started as a personal journey quickly turned into a passion.
The Turning Point
The more I learned, the more I realized how little I had known about real estate before diving into it. And if I felt that way, how many other people must feel the same? Buying or selling a home is one of the biggest financial decisions most people will ever make, yet so many feel lost or intimidated by the process. I wanted to change that.
One day, as I was helping a friend navigate the process of buying her first home, she said something that stuck with me: “You’d make a great real estate agent. You’re so patient, and you’ve made this feel so much less stressful than I thought it would be.” That simple comment planted a seed in my mind.
Why Real Estate Felt Right
As I considered becoming a real estate agent, I realized it checked so many boxes for me:
Helping Others: I’ve always loved supporting people and solving problems, and real estate offers endless opportunities to do both.
Community Connection: I love my city and its neighborhoods. Becoming an agent felt like a natural way to deepen my connection to the community while helping others find their place in it.
Personal Growth: Real estate is a field where you’re constantly learning—about markets, trends, people, and yourself. That’s a challenge I’ve come to embrace.
Lessons Learned So Far
Since starting my real estate journey, I’ve learned so much—not just about the industry, but about myself. Here are a few lessons that have stood out:
It’s About Relationships, Not Transactions: The heart of real estate is building trust and genuine connections. Every client has a story, and being part of such an important chapter in their lives is incredibly rewarding.
Patience Pays Off: Not every deal comes together quickly. Some clients need time, and some markets require persistence. But staying patient and focused always leads to better outcomes.
Every Day is Different: One of the things I love most about real estate is that no two days are the same. Whether I’m touring properties, negotiating contracts, or brainstorming marketing strategies, there’s always something new to tackle.
My Why
At the end of the day, the reason I became a real estate agent is simple: I wanted to make a difference. Whether it’s helping a family find their forever home, guiding a first-time buyer through the process, or assisting a seller in moving on to their next chapter, I’m here to provide support, knowledge, and a steady hand.
I also wanted to show my kids that it’s never too late to pursue a new path or chase a passion. Becoming a real estate agent wasn’t in my original plan, but it’s been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made. It’s not just a job; it’s a way to connect, grow, and help others achieve their dreams—and that feels pretty amazing.
